About the event
A college sailing event is a competitive regatta where university sailing teams race against each other in a series of short, fast-paced races. These events are usually team racing, which means it’s not just about individual speed — it’s about strategy, coordination, and outmaneuvering the other team on the water.
Each university enters multiple teams, typically made up of six sailors (three boats), and the races are run in quick succession over a weekend. The atmosphere is intense, competitive, and social — with sailing during the day and events or dinners in the evenings.
Beyond the racing, these events are a key part of college sport and student life. They’re where sailors test their skills, build friendships, represent their universities, and foster a strong community around the sport.

Louis McGovernI’m a Business and French student at Trinity College Dublin and an active member of Trinity Sailing. This year, I’m serving as the club’s Junior Treasurer, where I combine my passion for sailing with a drive to grow and strengthen the club’s presence both on and off the water.
